INSPIRATIONAL STORY OF IAS RISHAB JAIN

Hello everyone, Iam Rishab Jain, i secured All India Rank 23 in UPSC CSE 2018. I'll tell you my story. Let me know if I'm an average or below average person Failed for the first time in a subject in my tenth standard Studied in TN state board. Got 85.2% in tenth In twelfth, got 84.66%. Again only state board. During my twelfth I had heard of AIEEE but not IIT JEE. I had no idea that IIT’s even exists. (Poor me). When I thought of appearing in AIEEE, one of my chemistry teacher said, ‘AIEEE is based on CBSE syllabus, we read state board syllabus, hence its not of much use’. So didn't apply for AIEEE Got admission in a college in Chennai due to someone's recommendation in Electronics and Communication Engineering. One of my friend had called me to a cultural in IIT-M. That's for the first time I had stepped into IIT and felt I missed studying in such a huge campus. First sem, 7 GPA with one backlog Second sem, 6 point something with one backlog. Could only

Backup plan for UPSC CSE by Rishab Jain

Backup plan for Civil Service Exam by Rishab jain

In the first two years of my preparation for the CSE I didn't have any backup plans. In fact I had resigned my job and decided not to go back into the IT sector. I had my complete focus on CSE. But after two failures at the Main exam stage, I was seriously considering a backup option.

That's when one of my friend, Ashish Jain, secured a good rank in CAPF(AC), and got into the CISF. I found the exam process is very simple and a job in forces is worth a shot.

So I had appeared in the written exam conducted in August, 2018. The results were declared in December, 2018, after the CSE Main results.

My CSE interview date was on 21st Feb and results were to be announced by April first week. Since I had cleared the CAPF Written exam, I got a call for the Physical and Medical Test. The PMT was conducted at CRPF Group Center at Jharodha Kalan, NCR.

Why did I appear in the CAPF?

  1. Backup. If not CSE then what? The thought of being jobless for almost four years struck deep within me
  2. The job prospect at CISF was looking good. Mostly industrial security, urban deployment, leadership role as an AC, disciplined life etc attracted me. Even in my CSE, my second service preference was IPS and not IFS. I have a craze over the uniformed services.
  3. My aim is to serve the nation. I had already appeared in the CDS written but couldn't attend the SSB because of clash in the dates. So I found CAPF as a good option
  4. Being in General category, this would have been my last attempt in the CAPF.
  5. The syllabus for CAPF was identical to CSE. CAPF written took place two months after CSE Prelims. Hence I had practiced for both Objective as well as Subjective paper. It was easier for me to clear the exam.
  6. There's a gap of one year from the date of announcement of results till the date of joining the training. So I could utilise that time in preparing for UPSC CSE.

The advise that students appearing in UPSC Prelims this year should also apply for CAPF. Apart from a good backup and great job opportunities, it will give a confidence boost. All the best.
